Open Data Policy

The Office of Public Works (OPW) is committed to making data publicly available in accordance with the Open Data Directive (EU) 2019/1024, transposed into Irish law through SI No. 376/2021, and the High-Value Datasets Regulation.

The OPW has long implemented the principles of open by default and is committed to making all non-personal data it holds freely available, except where legal, privacy, security, or other legitimate restrictions apply.

Open Data Directive Requests

Where data is not already available online, requests can be made through the appropriate process.

Requests for flood risk data should be submitted using the prescribed application form to flood_data@opw.ie.
Requests for other OPW datasets may be submitted to opendata@opw.ie, providing details of the data or documents required.

In line with the Open Data Directive, data requests are generally processed within 20 working days. For complex or extensive requests, an additional 20 working days may be required.

Appeals

If a request for data is refused, the decision may be appealed to the Office of the Information Commissioner.
